It comes across you like a wave. With no warning it consumes your body, mind, and soul. What is this deadly element, you ask? Well, it’s Stress!
Stress has the power of clouding your mind and draining your body of all energy. Studies have shown that stressful interactions and states of mind can trigger the bodies flight or fight mode. In this mode our body basically goes on high alert mode, it slows down digestion, and pulls major blood flow to all of the “important” parts of your body. Stress also encourages the body to store fat and heightens your cravings.
Being that your body is under a lot of stress it will begin to produce a hormone by the name of cortisol. Cortisol increases the amount of fat tissue in the body as well as encourages the growth of the residing fat cells. Cortisol is most commonly elevated during periods of stress. High levels of cortisol also affects your memory by blocking neurotransmitters and making it harder for your brain to create new memories.
Stress fortunately can be relieved in many ways. One of which is exercise. Exercise has the power to take your mind off of stressful scenarios and get your body to sweat out all of that negative energy. Whether it is a kickboxing or yoga class you will find that your level of stress will be much smaller when you leave. So today I challenge you to find at least 2 things you can do to relieve stress in your life. These things can be reading or going on a nice walk, or maybe it is listening to music.
